The ISU Alumni Association has selected Associate Professor of Theatre Brad Dell as one of the recipients of the Faculty/Staff Inspiration Award. Dell was nominated by Christina Holaday who graduated in 2014 with a degree in Performing Arts.
The Alumni Association established this award in 2011 as a way for former ISU students to recognize current or former ISU faculty or staff members who had a significant influence in their lives as students at ISU. The Faculty/Staff Inspiration Award is partially funded by earnings from the Nancy and Richard Degner Alumni Association Endowment.
Dell teaches classes in Directing, Musical Theatre and Script Analysis. He directs two productions per academic year for ISU Theatre, including nearly all of the large musicals and operas. Some of his recent ISU directing projects have included Cabaret, The Secret Garden, Les Miserables, and Into the Woods.
Dell is the Chair of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 5, for which he serves as the visionary and organizational leader of the Region and the chief curator and planner of the week long annual conference attended by 1500 faculty, students, and special guests from around the country. He is also the Artistic Director of Repertory Theater of Iowa and the Artistic Advisor for StageWest Theater Company. He has directed numerous productions for both organizations.
“Being a teacher is in my blood. The greatest joy of my life is working with students, and inspiring and challenging them to reach for their dreams and helping them develop their own artistic viewpoints,” Dell said. “I am so very humbled, proud, and grateful to receive this award.”
The Alumni Association will present the award at their annual Board of Director’s meeting and reception on May 19th. Dell will also be featured in an upcoming issue of VISIONS magazine.
