Barjche 08:
A Journey Through 150 Years of Dance - Past, Present & Future
February 8 & 9, 7:30 p.m.
February 10, 2 p.m.
Fisher Theater
Barjche ("Bar-shay") began in 1946 when three Iowa State University students decided to produce a dance concert focusing on Modern Dance. By combining their first names (Barbara, Jean, and Charlotte) they entitled a new presence and dance art form in Ames, Iowa. Orchesis I, ISU's Modern/Contemporary Dance Company, carries on this yearly tradition with innovative ideas and virtuosic skill.
Barjche 2008 will focus on a theme of nostalgia for the past, references from the present day, and technological advances towards the future. Student, faculty, and guest choreographers will present a two act showcase featuring various genres of dance (Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Modern/Contemporary, Dance Theater, Dance for the Camera, and Performance Art) mixed together in a collaged structural format. This family friendly show is sure to educate, entertain, and open minds for all lovers of theater and dance.
